(=) The local steel producers request the authority to impose import barriers Recall that anti-dumping duties on imported steel in US constrained the local steel producers to export to the country. Correspondingly, the general secretary of Turkish Steel Producers Association stated their request for import barriers as the producers canalize their US exports to local market. Turkey was exporting an annual of c.3.8mn tons of steel products to U.S- nearly 10% of the total production before the duties. Accordingly, the authority may place some import barriers to protect the local producers as the most of the countries do following US-decision. However, we should remind you that the Turkey is a net flat steel importer, accordingly, the barriers may only be imposed to long-steel imports and its impact should be negligible given Turkey’s excess-production capacity in the long-steel production in addition to the current weakness in the domestic market in the long-segment (mostly used in construction sector). Accordingly, we do not expect any upward move in the domestic prices even the some duties on imports placed.

(=) Yerli çelik üreticitileri korumacı önlemler istiyor ABD’de çelik ithalatına uygulanan ekstra vergilerden dolayı, yerli çelik üreticileri ihracat yapmakta zorlanmaya başlamıştı. Buna paralel basında çıkan haberlere göre, yerli çelik üreticileri yetkililerden ithalatı kısıtlayıcı önlemler istedi. Türkiye’nin ABD’ye çelik ihracatı yıllık 3.8 milyon ton seviyelerindeydi. İthalatı kısıtlayıcı önlemler gelsebile, yassı çelik tarafında net ithalatçı olduğumuzdan dolayı, önlemlerin uzun çelik tarafına gelme olasılığını daha yüksek buluyoruz. Bunun da zayuf talep ve yüksek üretim kapasitesinden dolayı etkisinin sınırlı olacağını düşünüyoruz.
