Mevsimsellikten arındırılmış işsizlik oranı Temmuz’da (Haziran-Ağustos dönemini kapsar) %14.1’den %13.6’a geriledi. Daha da önemlisi istihdam oranı %48.1’den %42.6’ya yükseldi. Bu oranın yükselmesinde pandemi sebebiyle kaybedilen 2.6 milyon istihdamın yaklaşık 1 milyonunun yeniden istihdam edilmesiydi. Son dönemde yeni istihdamın daha çok hizmetler ve inşaat sektöründen kaynaklandığını gözlemliyoruz. Öte yandan sanayi sektöründe pandemi döneminde kaybedilen yaklaşık 486,000 istihdamın sadece 82,000’i yeniden kazanılmış durumda. 3Ç20 sonuyla sanayi üretimi büyük ihtimalle pandemi öncesi dönemi yakalayacak olsa da istihdamda normalleşmenin çok yavaş gerçekleştiğini gözlemliyoruz.
July Unemployment: Job market recovery still remains tepid in contrast to the recovery in economic activity in 3Q20.
Seasonally adjusted unemployment rate fell to 13.6% in July (encapsulates data from June-August period) from 14.1% in June (May-July period). Mo re importantly, labor participation increased to 42.6 from 41.8% in June and 41.1% in May. The ratio was about 45.5% before the pandemic. The total employment rose by 1.0m since April (March-May period) following 2.6m job losses at the height of the pandemic. Most of the job gains happened in the services and construction sectors. On the other hand, only 82K of the 486K jobs lost in the industrial sector have been recovered. A relatively weak recovery in industrial sector employment draws a contrast to the very robust recovery in industrial production which has probably recovered to its pre-COVID level by the end of 3Q20.
